Numbershark 3

NumberShark is a program to help anyone improve basic Numeracy. It addresses many of the difficulties, which lead students to dislike maths, including poor short term memory, attention, span and sequencing skills.

The program features 40 different games to teach and reinforce Numeracy in ways, which add meaning and understanding to numbers. The games are played with your chosen units of work (topics) each of which generate a new set of “sums” every time you play the game.

Numbershark offers high motivation and enjoyment within a structured learning process.

The Games

  • Different games address different aspects of: ordering, grouping, conservation, place value, exchange, symbol discrimination, problem solving, commutativity, links between operations, maths vocabulary.
  • The variety of games promotes both understanding and rote practice.
  • Numbers are represented in many forms in the games e.g.: rods, number line, scale, digits, words, abacus, numberpad, and 100 square.
  • Mental maths and mental strategies are well addressed at all levels.
  • There are many varied approaches to number bonds and tables.
  • Scores and timings are shown on screen but most games do not impose time limits.
  • Variable speeds and other options meet all grades of skill.
  • Help screens can be shown alongside games as you play them.

Topics

  • The units of work (here called “topics”) form the structured course. They address each of the number operations + - x and division in very small steps, isolating one new level of difficulty at a time. Old facts are linked to new ones. Additional sections address mixed operations, counting and sequencing, special topics and worded problems.
  • Numbershark generates a new set of “sums” each time a topic is selected.
  • Numbers range from zero to nine digits.
  • The 400 topics offer a finely graded structured course with clear examples given on screen to help you select.
Quick access to your choice of topic is given via a menu tree or via the program’s own search engine.
  • Fully supports the detailed and flexible mental strategies outlined in the Numeracy Framework.
  • 1,500 worded problems help put numbers in context and promote math vocabulary.
